Each year thousands of vacationers from North Carolina, South Carolina, and just about any other state you can think of travel to enjoy their long summer days and cool summer nights in Myrtle Beach, SC. For years Myrtle Beach has been home to bike fests, college coeds looking for fun during spring break, and newly graduated high school seniors who plan on having one last carefree hurrah before entering “the real world.” However, even more than that, Myrtle Beach has been home to dozens, hundreds, and even thousands of weddings. Since I’m from Charlotte, NC, I visited Myrtle Beach quite often as a child, and I find myself there at least once a year as an adult.
One of the most important things to remember about planning a wedding in Myrtle Beach is timing. I’m sure your wedding party, guests, family members, and friends do not want to share the hotel with screaming college students or unruly high school students. Similarly, I doubt you and your future life mate want to spend one of the biggest days of your life with sounds from choppers and racing bikes in the background. So remember to call ahead—maybe as soon as you become engaged—or check online to see the calendar of events planned for the time you want to get married. Of course the summer months will be more crowded, but you would want to check even if your wedding falls outside of beach season, and as an even bigger incentive, don’t forget that hotels and attractions are not as expensive during the off-season.
Once you pick a date suitable for you and your guests, the next largest part will involve finding a ceremony and reception venue. This will largely depend on whether you would like your wedding to be in North or South Myrtle Beach. North Myrtle Beach is quieter, and may be perfect for elder family members and children, where South Myrtle Beach is home to all the night life the city has to offer, and is probably not suitable for young children and elderly family members at night. After you decide on a specific venue, you’re probably wondering what the guests will do if they come into town early, or decide to stay in town after the ceremony and reception. If you’re looking for something for guests to do during the day, say while they are arriving, before or after the wedding, or if they decide to stay in the city on their own, there are many family friendly places (and of course adult-only dance club and bars) that would serve this purpose. There are aquariums, putt-putt golf centers, arcades, laser tag centers, a water park, premier outlet and several shopping centers, and many other events that can keep everyone busy. The best part about many of these places is they are usually only steps away from casual dining, formal dining, and those just looking for a snack. There is no shortage of restaurants in Myrtle Beach, but two of my personal favorites are Yamato and the Giant Crab. Yamato is a Japanese Steakhouse that specializes in Hibachi style dining which is always entertaining, and Giant Crab is a seafood buffet that specializes in great food, great service, and a nice atmosphere. If neither of these restaurants suits your fancy, there are many, many more to choose from.
