If you're ever wondering about alternatives to getting married in a church, here are some wonderful ideas:

A local park (in Spring, the flowers can help to create a beautiful scene for pictures, and in most cases, it's pretty inexpensive.)

A party boat/yachts - If you're inviting a smaller number of guests and are looking for a way to host an intimate ceremony, party boats/yachts are a sure fire way to go. It may be a little more expensive, but the ceremony and reception site would be in the same area. And in most cases food and drink are included.

The Beach or destination weddings - Having a wedding at a beach (North Carolina has some beautiful choices) or on an island is a great way to move the entire wedding party to a place they may not have been. This may get costly for your guests, but remember, it is your day.

A local museum or convention center - Surprised? Don't be. Museums can often be ideal because they are already so clean and organized and often have conference rooms, banquet halls, and temporary exhibition rooms that make beautiful ceremony and reception sites. Plus, they often have children's rooms that are sure to keep children out of trouble and out of the way of the adult guests.

Bed and Breafasts - I know what you're thinking, but this location would create a calmer, comfortable, and more intimate setting if you plan on inviting a smaller number of guests.

These are just a few locations that have proven to be successful. Know of a venue that wasn't on the list? Feel free to add it!

My fiance and I are not members of any church so we didn't know where to have a ceremony. We ended up deciding on The Rose Garden in Raleigh. The ceremony will be in August so hopefully the roses will still be in full bloom and not dead from a heat wave. We are excited about our wedding ceremony. By the way, the honeymoon will be held at the Sheraton downtown Raleigh (which is the host hotel for all of our out of town guests).
